Really cool unique mid-century home for rent in historic district

Rent $3000 per month, includes landscape and swim spa maintenance and solar, which will cover normal electric use, including normal use of spa and a/c.  If you have electrical uses that go over normal usage you will be responsible for the balance.  In the 2+ years that the house has had solar panels the solar electricity has not been exceeded even with spa and a/c use.

3 bedroom (well suited to multiple configurations)
2 bath
1796 square feet
swim spa
carport
drought tolerant landscaping on drip irrigation
100% offset solar panels
new LG front loader washer and dryer

Architecturally amazing mid-century home for rent located in the heart of the Old Escondido Historic District, walking distance to the charming downtown restaurants and shops. Built in 1964, it has been owned by only 4 families and is a truly special home.  The interior has wood and tile floors with carpeting only in the 3rd bedroom, vaulted wood ceilings, huge floor to ceiling windows as well as clerestory windows, filling the living, dining and office areas with natural light.  The living room and dining room have wood floors and cedar walls that help keep the house well insulated in the summer and the winter.  With the large sliding glass doors on either end of the first floor and a whole house fan in the attic, the house stays remarkably cool in the summer so that you rarely need to turn on the whole house A/C (but it’s there when you need it).  In the winter the furnace keeps things warm but the gas fireplace with the floor to ceiling standing seam chimney make things incredibly cozy.  There are original built in wood cabinets in the dining room, living room and 2nd bedroom.

The first floor master also has wood floors, vaulted wood ceilings, sliding doors to a private rear deck, and access to the oversized downstairs bathroom.  There is an office nook a step up from the main living area with a built in mid-century modern desk and shelving system and an exposed brick wall.  In the hallway there is a storage closet and a laundry closet with a new LG front loading washer and dryer.  Off of the office nook is the second bedroom, with tile floors, recessed wall cabinets, vaulted ceilings, and a loft with attic access.  This room also has an exposed brick wall.  Upstairs is a massive 3rd bedroom/art studio/playroom with the second bathroom and it’s own balcony.  This room has an abundance of windows letting in a lot of light, and the ceilings are incredibly high.

Off of the dining room is the kitchen and patio/yard.  The kitchen has a built in desk area with a lot of extra counter space, stainless steel appliances, and a big window looking out to the patio/yard.  Outside there is a nice sized patio with a yard (no grass) surrounded by a reclaimed wood fence.  The 14 foot long swim spa is built into a raised cedar deck with bench seating running the length of 3 sides.  The spa is watched over by a very regal and very large lion statue.  The landscaping is a tropical/desert mix, with cactus, agave, banana plants, birds of paradise, a fig tree and a passion fruit vine and much more.  There is also ample sunny space to put in a vegetable garden on the other side of the driveway.

New whole house solar panels were installed in the last year averaging %100 percent offset with typical A/C and spa use.

The house/property has been exposed to relatively few chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, or other toxic substances.  The past 2 years we have used almost exclusively organic and natural cleaning products, and have used no pesticides or herbicides.  Due to the nature of cedar wood, termites are naturally repelled, so there has been no need to be tented or treated for many years.  The gardener will weed as necessary so there should be no need for herbicides and there are many natural and organic options for other household chemicals and we would be happy to offer information on those option for any issues that might arise.  The previous owner had a chemical sensitivity so very few chemicals or toxic household products were used prior to our purchasing the home.  This would be ideal for anyone that is trying to limit their exposure to chemicals and toxins.

Old Escondido is a really cool neighborhood.  The houses are historic and beautiful, the streets are lined with trees, the neighbors are incredible and the location can’t be beat.  We are 7 blocks to Grand, with a host of great restaurants and fun activities.  There is a farmers market on Tuesdays, and Cruisin’ Grand Friday nights.  There are also a number of festivals and street fairs through out the year, including 4th of July fireworks in Historic Grape Day Park. It’s also conveniently located to all the big stores (Target,Lowe’s, etc) you could possibly need, and most importantly, the 15, which will get you anywhere you need to be faster than on the 5.

We are looking for a minimum 1 year lease and will entertain a multiyear lease as well.  We are animal advocates, so pets are welcome with a pet deposit.  This house is an architecturally significant home so we are looking for someone that will have great respect for it’s historic integrity.
